Dinosaurs of the Bible (Part 3)

Dinosaurs are a subject not to be taken lightly. If someone is to make claims about the life and fate of the Dinosaurs, who truly were as real as you and I - there are skeptics who believe that Dinosaurs did not exist, but these same people believe Man never landed on the Moon - they must back up their claims.

That has been the intention of this 3-Part Series on Dinosaurs of the Bible. The main goal of Christians should be not only to grow with God, but to win people for Jesus, to turn people to him. By learning other things that Evolutionists, Denominations, Atheists, and Unbelievers may throw at us, we can answer accordingly.

This being said, the final entry of this mini-series on Dinosaurs, but of course not the last time I will write on these fascinating creatures made by God, will revolve around two things: The Leviathan, mentioned time and time again through scripture, which was a water-dinosaur, and accounts, regarding the fact that some dinosaurs may yet be in existence today.

The accounts I will list come from ChristianAnswers.net, a trusted source. (Pictures both accredited to ChristianAnswers.net) The accounts were gathered from various sources, but they were all reliable. However, the Bible is to be regarded as THE Truth. These accounts may not all be true, as they cannot all be proved - but the Bible can be, and continues to prove itself over and over. So take these accounts with a grain of salt, dear friends. The point of listing some of these is to show that some evidence allows that a few Dinosaurs are in existence today, or at least, were in existence for some time after the Great Worldwide Flood.

Dragons - I am sure you've heard of them. Did they exist? Probably. But not fire-breathers. Did they have wings? I do not know. But I know this: those original dragon legends must have come from memories of Dinosaurs. Many scientists agree that most legends are based on some truth, not full imagination. It is no accident that before a global connection was established that so many different cultures share the same tales.

While it is true that most "Dragon" legends are full of "magic and wondrous deeds," but many of these stories seem believable. There is a practical application for this, which I will explain later - keep in mind that the legends part will lead to a deeper meaning. I will get to that.

Did many of these storytellers see live Dinosaurs, which are true, and which are based on the stories of others, and how can we know for sure? Well, the Truth (no pun intended) is that we cannot know. However, here are a few interesting accounts that are hard to ignore.

"France and Europe: The city of Nerluc in France was renamed in honor of the killing of a 'dragon' there. The animal was bigger than an ox and had long, sharp, pointed horns on its head. There were a number of different horned dinosaurs. The Triceratops is one example. A well-known, old science book, the Historia Animalium, claims that 'dragons' were not extinct in the 1500's. But the animals were said to be extremely rare and relatively small by then."

"China: [There is much more written] Thousands of dragon stories and pictures can be found in ancient Chinese books and art. One interesting legend tells about a famous Chinese man named Yu. [Not Me, Yu.] After the great world flood, Yu surveyed the land of China and divided it into sections. He 'built channels to drain the water off to the sea' and helped make the land livable again. Many snakes and 'dragons' were driven off from the marshlands when Yu created the new farmlands. Some old Chinese books even tell of a family that kept 'dragons' and raised the babies. It is said that in those days, Chinese kings used 'dragons' for pulling royal chariots on special occasions. [This was most likely, judging by the original account, a Triceratops] Ancient Chinese books even tell of using 'dragons'" body parts, fat, etc, for medicine."

I will give one more account, tell a bit more about the Leviathan, and then close up this series. "Ireland: An Irish writer recorded and encounter with a large beast with 'iron' on its tail which pointed backwards. Its head was shaped a little like a horse's. And it had thick legs with strong claws. These details match features of dinosaurs like the Kentrosaurus and Stegosaurus. They had sharp-pointed spines on their tails, thick legs, strong claws, and long skulls."

Now, there are countless other accounts. However, I trust that these few accounts showed a bit that some Dinosaurs were at least in existence for a while after the Flood. Many claim to have seen Pterodactyls in parts of Africa. Because of Noah's Ark, it is not that hard to fathom.

The Leviathan. Talked about in Job 41, it is described as the greatest creature in the ocean. It was useless trying to catch these creatures with hooks, or anything else. Job 41:33 describes it as a "creature without fear."
The creature, with its strong jaws, huge size, large teeth, and fast swimming capability, as well as its protected back and underbelly give us a few hints. It is possible that the "Leviathan" was a Kronosaurus. In Psalm 104, David talks of the Leviathans. Meaning, in the context he describes them, they were probably still around in the time of David, which was about 1010 BC.

It is intriguing to note that many tales of "sea monsters" match the plesiosaurs, [of which many claim is the supposed "Loch Ness Monster"] and mosasaurs. The fossils have shown that they could swim like a snake moves.There are many references to this animal in the Bible. Another such reference is found in Psalm 74:13-14, which says, "It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters. It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert."

Here is an account given by a German Submarine in World War I. "On July 30, 1915, our U28 torpedoed the British steamer Iberian carrying a rich cargo in the North Atlantic. The steamer sank quickly, the bow sticking almost vertically into the air. When it had gone for about twenty-five seconds there was a violent explosion. A little later pieces of wreckage, and among them a gigantic sea animal (writhing and struggling wildly), was shot out of the water to a height of 60 to 100-feet. At that moment I had with me in the conning tower my officers of the watch, the chief engineer, the navigator, and the helmsman. Simultaneously we all drew one another's attention to this wonder of the seas…we were unable to identify it. We did not have time to take a photograph, for the animal sank out of sight after ten or fifteen seconds. It was about 60-feet long, was like a crocodile in shape and had four limbs with powerful webbed feet and a long tail tapering to a point."

The point is, are there dinosaurs still in existence today? It's entirely possible. Does the Bible talk about Dinosaurs? It certainly does. I hope this series has shown that, and has proved the Truth of God's Word to you once more. I had mentioned something earlier, about the legends.

I have this last thing, and then I will close out. As I had mentioned, it cannot be an accident that all of these secluded places, before ever having Global contact with one another, would have smiliar accounts of Dinosaurs. In the same way, and this is to the unbeliever, why is it that every developing Civilization recognizes, in some form or another, even the loin-cloth tribe deep in the jungle, that there is a higher power, a God?


This is because God plants the knowledge and Truth of his existence on every heart. He is Truth, he is light, and he is not willing that any should perish.To the unbeliever, or Non-Christian, I tell you this. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. He paid our penalty so that we didn't have to. So I urge you, dear friends: If you are not convinced of your salvation, turn to Jesus. Ask for forgiveness for your sins, and if you believe that he died and rose from the dead, you will be saved.
